Singer-songwriter creates concertsinyourhome.com, a “house concert” network for touring musicians

Fran Snyder, a Lawrence, KS artist with 500,000 miles of touring experience, has decided that house concerts could be the answer for struggling artists worldwide. The question: How can small acts find rooms where people listen, and actually buy CDs?

These acts, unless they are famous, often find themselves playing in bars and coffeehouses where audiences routinely ignore music - no matter how good it is. Snyder believes music is so ubiquitous these days, that people need a new or unique experience to capture their attention. House concerts provide such an intimate experience, that audiences usually don’t dare act in a distracting manner, “and there’s never a TV over your head.”

For decades, “house concerts” have been an underground phenomenon in the United States - reserved for the “stars” of the insular folk music community. Snyder believes many artists (who don’t consider themselves “folk”) could benefit from this experience, and has spent much of the last two years creating a database of artists and homes to help these people find each other.

The result is concertsinyourhome.com, which features hundreds of artists and house concert presenters in 5 countries. The site receives more than 14,000 visitors per month, and is doubling in size every 6 months.

“It’s tough out there, even major label acts are having trouble filling medium sized venues. Music fans want a more personal experience today. With house concerts - that’s what they get.”
