Dan and Leland's ferocious guitar playing, razor-sharp harmonies and sublimely crafted songs have been leaving listeners slack-jawed and eager for more for the past three years. Anchored by aggressively catchy hooks and intelli-pop ear-candy production, the Los Angeles based eclectic-rock duo has been gaining momentum since the release of their acclaimed 2006 acoustic debut album, New Directions. Their second album, The Rush of Sights and Sounds (2007), marks D&L's departure into the realm of shimmering electric guitars and pile-driving drums (courtesy of Nate Morton- CBS's Rockstar, Vanessa Carlton, BT). I grew up in a small farming/college town called Walla Walla in rural Washington State. I graduated high school, moved to Boston and crashed around Berklee College of Music for a few years until they gave me a piece of paper saying I could play the guitar.

Then I moved to Seattle, mainly because I like sunshine and don't drink coffee, and formed a rock band called Garrison Frost. Over the course of a year and a half, we played tons of cool shows, got played on a lot of radio stations, and wrote some great rock songs. We started to get some "industry attention." We were told we were good, but didn't have a hit.

But I don't want to have a hit, I said, I just want to play cool son...

Gypsy Grass" best describes this socially pertinent mix of foot-stompin' fiddle tunes and heartfelt love ballads, led by Eliza Jane's wildly maleable voice, also heard on TV as most of the female population of "South Park."

Imagine the love child of Alison Krauss and Alan Lomax home-schooled by Tracy Ullman, sort of. You get a traditionally trained scientist (really!!), a stunningly adept actress and uniquely engaging musician who weaves characters and stories into the spaces around her music. Add the slide guitar, harmonica, and clarinet stylings of Super Sideman Joel Tepp, and bake for 20 minutes. Tastes like chicken!
